Season Look: Women's Autumn/Winter

The New Silhouette

Rather than focus on one designer it's more relevant to focus on a design movement this season. After a summer of 'boho chic' the new phrase to be coined is the 'Hitchcock Heroine', the best examples of which were seen at Alexander McQueen. He is not however, the only designer championing the new ladylike look which took on new dimensions at Giles Deacon, Yves Saint Laurent and Roland Mouret. One of the most important pieces of this look is the pencil skirt, which looked fresh in tweed and tartan at Mouret and made a statement in gold sequins and mustard coloured, pom pom adorned wool at Giles. Belts were taken from being casually placed around the hips - the look that perhaps epitomised the boho obsession this summer- to being buckled tightly around the waist to give an altogether more flattering and womanly silhouette. (Black leather is also favoured over brown- and make sure it's paired with a gold buckle!) don't fall at the last hurdle with your shoes. Round toed styles are favourable over points and a thicker or stacked heel works best.
