Season Look: Mens Autumn/Winter

It is only fair to say that in recent times Men's fashion has gone from strength to strength, pushed forward by the likes of Ann Demeulemeester, Dries Van Noten, and in more recent times Dior Homme. At the forefront of this race however, is Christopher Bailey. Westminster University graduate Bailey has helped turned the fortunes of Burberry Prorsum right around and champions each season in both his mens and womens pret-a-porter collections. His autumn/winter 2005-6 menswear collections was one of my favourite of the season, drawing from one of his most favourite inspirations- the English. The key to pulling off Bailey's look this season is to clash. Tartan was paired with floral prints reminiscent of seventies wallpaper, wool was worn with plastic macs, purple and green were paired and there was plenty of yellow. (a colour that looks to be revisited after plenty was seen in the s/s 2006 womenswear collections) A lazy way to encompass Burberry's English eccentric look is to invest in a scarf akin to the green, yellow, gray, purple and blue (phew!) one seen draped over trenchcoats and cardigans.
